Simultaneous interpreting
In this mode of interpreting, one or more speakers deliver a message in one language and one or two interpreters inside a soundproof booth deliver in real-time the same message in the listeners' language.
When is simultaneous interpreting required?
On almost all occasions when a group of people gather to listen to one or more speakers who deliver a message in a foreign language in a meeting such as a conference, a congress or a summit, where, due to the time previously established and the number of attendees, communication must take place in real time.
Consecutive interpreting
In this mode of interpreting, the speaker delivers a message in one language, but, unlike simultaneous interpreting, the speaker pauses from time to time to allow the interpreter to act as a bridge for communication and deliver the message in the listeners' language.
When is consecutive interpreting required?
This mode is primarily used in settings such as conferences, courtrooms and press briefings, as well as in environments where simultaneous interpreting is not possible for technical reasons (venues that do not allow for the use of equipment, small spaces, large groups of attendees and others).
Liaison interpreting
In this mode of interpreting, an interpreter acts as a liaison between two or more people who speak different languages. The liaison interpreter interprets in both directions the message delivered by each of the speakers to allow them to communicate with each other.
When is liaison interpreting required?
Liaison interpreting is used in settings with a small number of participants such as interviews, work meetings, negotiations, visits, audit sessions and meetings with public institutions.
